Inspiration to weave comes from Patricia's experience of the world. A poem, music, a passage read in a book, words heard in a conversation, something seen or heard on a walk, music or anything that quickens the breath may tug at the urge to create. She will ask herself if there is a tapestry or a sculpture lingering there, in the experience, waiting to be visualized, then woven. Her intuition will alert her if there is.
Color is essential to her work. She uses high quality, light fast commercial dyes, providing unlimited flexibly, thousands of colors.
For tapestry, she weaves on a 60 inch wide horizontal loom. Linen is the warp, providing a timeless internal strength for the finished work. The wool weft brings a texture and warmth to the weaving, while silk offers a contrasting reflective surface.
For sculpture Patricia uses a specially designed frame loom for the copper wire warp on which she needle weaves the dyed silk fiber.
